Margaret River Open Studios

Margaret River Region Open Studios 2025: Art Unlocked Across the South West

Event Overview

  • Dates: Saturday, 13 September – Sunday, 28 September 2025, from approximately 10 AM to 4 PM daily

  • Now in its 12th year, Margaret River Region Open Studios (MRROS) has grown into one of Western Australia’s most anticipated visual-arts festivals and Australia’s largest Open Studios.

Scope & Scale

  • Over 150 artists (151 this year, including 23 emerging creatives making their debut) will open their studio doors to the public, offering a rare, intimate look at their creative worlds.

  • These studios stretch from Busselton to Augusta, covering a rich tapestry of locations—from converted barns and sea containers to railway carriages and personal home studios.

Artists & Experiences

One of the most special aspects of Open Studios is the chance to step directly into an artist’s world. Visitors can wander into working studios—often tucked into gardens, back sheds, and home workshops—and not only view finished artworks but chat to artists as they create. Many visitors describe the joy of pulling up a stool, listening to stories behind the work, and watching a painting, print, or sculpture take shape before their eyes.

This relaxed, face-to-face connection strips away gallery walls and creates a unique dialogue between artist and audience. Whether you’re asking questions about technique, learning what inspires them, or even commissioning a personal piece, the experience is as much about the people behind the art as the art itself.

Art forms span painting, sculpture, glass-blowing, metalwork, multimedia, illustration, printmaking, mosaics, textiles, timber crafts, and more.

Events & Extras

  • Opening Art Party: 13th September at Clairault Streicker Wines, this kickoff includes drinks, mingling, and an Incognito Art Auction.

  • Art Trails: Complement your studio visits with public murals, street art, and outdoor installations throughout the region.

Why This Event Matters

The Margaret River Region Open Studios isn’t just a festival—it’s a back-door invitation into the creative heart of the South West. Visitors are welcomed into the places where creativity truly happens, from rustic sheds and converted barns to sunlit home studios.

Here you can meet artists in their own spaces, watch as a painting comes to life, glass is blown into shape, or wood is carved with care. Along the way, conversations unfold naturally—about inspiration, challenges, and the stories that lie behind each artwork.

That’s the magic of Open Studios: you’re not only viewing finished pieces, but stepping into the artists’ worlds. The chance to chat, observe, and connect makes every visit a deeply personal and unforgettable experience.
