Homestyle Morning Tea

The cutest, cosiest, most charming cafes in Busselton & surrounds

No matter where you venture across the Margaret River region, you won’t be far from a café kitted out with country charm, serving up delicious coffee, homemade treats or a Devonshire tea.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite good, old-fashioned spots to add to your holiday bucket-list…

  1. Old Post Office Café

An absolute must do for any Busselton trip is to stop in at Busselton’s cultural hub, the Old Courthouse Cultural Complex. Spend a morning admiring the restored heritage-listed buildings including the courthouse and old gaol cells before marvelling at local art and craft on display in the gallery shop.

After you’ve worked up an appetite, be sure to stop by The Old Post Office café to grab coffee with superb latte art, and well-deserved croissant.

  1. Bohemian Brew

With its old stone heritage cottage set among picturesque gardens, Bohemian Brew is a favourite for Vasse locals – it’s lovely sitting in the shade offered by mature trees, with a generous slab of vanilla slice or a fresh scone and jam. Offering beautiful cakes and gateaux, plus yummy brunch dishes like eggs benedict and an omelette menu, it’s a quaint little spot for a morning tea outing with loved ones.

  1. Hippo Lakes

A farm shop, event venue and café all in one, Hippo Lakes sits on 30 acres of land surrounded by beautiful bushland. Dog and family friendly, the café focuses on locally sourced seasonal produce and has plenty of sweet and savoury options.

Our favourite? Pre-order the High Tea for a dazzling tower of sweet treats and tiny sandwiches. Enjoy a delicious meal overlooking the gardens and lake – complete with baby hippo sculptures on the floating island!

  1. Anniebrook

Come for the guinea pigs, stay for the amazing pies and scones! Enjoy the serenity of farm life when you visit Anniebrook Farm & Café. With wholesome home-style country cooking, a large gift shop within a rustic barn and plenty of farm animals, including over 100 guinea pigs – this is a must-visit for families. The shop is a treasure trove of silk flowers, beautiful bedspreads and other home décor – our kids love it.

Order a cuppa, indulge in a chicken and leek pie, and soak up the beauty of your surrounds.

  1. Maison Lassiailles

Craving a trip to the cobble-stoned streets of Paris? We’ve got you covered!

Maison Lassiailles in Metricup is a Francophile’s dream – from delicate macarons and jewel-hued fruit tarts to eclairs perfectly dipped in chocolate. Pick out a few petit gateaux and enjoy them sun-side in the lovely outdoor garden area. There’s plenty of room for kids to run around, and dogs are welcome to (via the side gate).

  1. Olio Bello

Be transported to the sun-soaked Mediterranean at Olio Bello Café & Olive Farm. Known for their award-winning olive oil, they also have a range of delicious nibbles and treats too. Think rosemary & lemon olive oil café, mousse with mandarin oil or a cup of refreshing olive leaf tea. It’s the perfect spot to while away a morning.

  1. Cape Lavender Tea House

Our go-to after a morning swim at Smiths Beach, the hardest thing is choosing between a lilac lavender ice cream, and a lavender flavoured Devonshire tea – scones with lavender jam and lavender tea.

It’s a sweet place to visit, with savoury quiche on offer too, and plenty of lovely gifts to take home from your holiday.

  1. Yallingup General Store

An icon of region, the Yallingup General Store has been around for decades, providing a café, general store, and post office all in one. Stocked to the brim, it has all the essentials including fresh produce, gourmet delights, souvenirs, coffee and more.

Swing by on your way to and from the beach for a late-morning coffee and soak up the friendly atmosphere amongst the locals.

  1. Yallingup Gugelhupf

Love Yallingup Wood Fired Bread? Yallingup Gugelhupf is a spin off that opened around 10 years ago, and it sits in the pastel-striped cottage next to Yallingup General Store. The expert German bakers make the dreamiest quiche, almond croissants, apple strudel and of course Gugelhupf, a traditional bundt-shaped bread in a multitude of flavours.

Take home some of their jams and honeys as a holiday memento.

  1. Goanna Café and Gallery

Tucked away in the bush ten minutes from Dunsborough, Goanna Café and Gallery offers a tranquil experience the whole family will love. Their Indo Rice breakkie has a cult following, it’s that good, and they make an awesome lunch too. The cake fridge is always stocked with excellent slices, three flavours of rocky road and a selection of cakes. Grab a big wedge of cake with cream to enjoy on the sunny deck, or inside by the fireplace in the cooler months.

After you’ve finished morning tea, check out the small array of artisan gifts and enjoy the beautiful art trail, which is full of quaint statues scattered on a short bushland stroll.

  1. Commonage Coffee

With brightly coloured surfboards lining the walls, and eclectic mismatched furniture, Commonage Coffee in Yallingup perfectly encapsulates the laidback vibe of the region. Grab a coffee and croissant, then head for more sweet treats from Yallingup Chocolate next door and spend a morning gazing across the vines.
