7 unique activities to try in Busselton & Margaret River region
The Margaret River region is a treasure trove of unique experiences, offering something for every type of traveller. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie craving abseiling or mountain biking, a beach and snorkelling lover or someone who prefers to be amongst animals, the region has it all!
We’ve rounded up seven of our favourite unique activities peppered across the region that everyone should try at least once.
- Underwater Sculpture Trail
No visit to Busselton is complete without a stroll to the end of the 1.8-kilometre-long timber-piled jetty situated in the heart of the town, but did you know what lies below the crystal-clear water?
Thirteen underwater sculptures by local artists have been installed at the end of the jetty, creating a trail that will not only get snorkellers and divers excited, but will also act as a man-made reef to encourage colourful marine life to flourish.
Secure snorkels, slip into swimmers, slop on SPF and embark on an unforgettable underwater adventure.
- Jetty Jumping off Busselton Jetty

Busselton’s much-loved heritage jetty stretches 1841 metres into the bay, and is a must-see for visitors and locals alike. Pick a warm day when the southerly breeze has kicked in and spend the afternoon jumping in and out of the tidal swimming enclosure located on the west side of the jetty. Bordered on all sides by netting and ranging from shallow near the shore, to deeper further out, it makes for the friendliest of beach spots for kids (big and small!).
Feeling brave? Pay the $4 jetty entry fee (it helps with maintenance) and jump from a much higher vantage point. Daredevil kids will love it!
- Coasteering
If you’re a family of adrenaline junkies – than this is the activity for you! Jump on a Coasteering experience with Margaret River Adventure Co – the relatively new adventure activity that’s a combination of rock jumping, hopping and shore-scrambling. Discover beautiful rockpools, leap into surging water and a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy nature like never before.
- Horse riding
Seeing the Margaret River region from horseback is a unique (and bucket-list) activity that everyone needs to try at least once! Whether you’re an experienced horse rider or a complete novice, Jesters Flat offers a range of tours and trails on their beautiful horses. And if you can’t get the whole family on horseback, there’s a well-equipped clubhouse and play area thoughtfully designed with the non-riding guest in mind!
- Mountain biking
The region’s stunning forests, coastal tracks, and rich biodiversity make it a dream destination for mountain biking – and it’s not just for the pros! For an unforgettable experience, jump on a tour with the team at Margaret River Mountain Bike Tours. Locally owned and operated, they offer custom private rides tailored to all fitness levels and abilities, making it the perfect activity for families of all ages.
- Make your own gin
This one’s for the adults! If you’re looking for a unique and memorable experience, a Beyond Gin Academy or Giniversity Blending Class is an absolute must. Guided by expert distillers, you’ll explore the art and science behind gin-making before crafting your very own bespoke blend using a range of botanicals. At the end of the session, get to take home a 500ml bottle of your creation. It’s the perfect souvenir to remember your time as a master distiller down south!
- Sailing
For our beach lovers, why not jump on a sailing tour with skipper Luke at Sailing Charters WA? Aboard Madeline, the 41ft Beneteau Oceanic Cruising Yacht, you’ll glide through the peaceful waters of Geographe Bay with your own skipper at the helm.

The bay’s sheltered waters make it an ideal spot for sailing, with smooth, clear conditions that allow you to relax and appreciate the beauty of the coastline. Plus, get to admire iconic spots like Castle Rock, Eagle Bay and Busselton Jetty fro
